- This chapter lists known bugs and workarounds for SGImeeting
- at the time of release.
-
-
- 5.1 _K_n_o_w_n__B_u_g_s
-
-
- SGImeeting has the following known bugs:
-
-
-
- _I_n_c_o_m_p_a_t_i_b_i_l_i_t_y _w_i_t_h _I_R_I_X _6._5._8
-
- When running on IRIX 6.5.8 systems SGImeeting is unable
- to share applications. A dialog saying "Injection of
- remote input is not available" will appear.
- Whiteboarding and other functions are unaffected. This
- bug is fixed in IRIX 6.5.9.

-
- When using multiple desktops, windows shared from other
- systems appear on all desktops. There is presently no
- workaround for this.
-
-

-
- When viewing shared application from another system, it
- is difficult to modify the stacking order of the shared
- windows on your desktop. This is partially remedied by
- using the Ctrl-Alt-F3 key sequence.
-
-
- _V_i_d_e_o _c_a_p_t_u_r_e _o_n _t_h_e _D_I_V_O _a_n_d _E_V_1 _C_a_r_d_s
-
- Video capture does not work on an Onyx2 using a DIVO
- Digital Video Card or an Indy using a EV1 Digital Video
- Card. You will get an error message or a black screen
- if you try to use them. A workaround to this problem
- is to run the "_v_i_d_e_o_i_n" executable from the shell and
- use screen capture on top of the image. Note: The -z
- option changes the image size. For example to get
- quarter frame size, enter:
-
- vvvviiiiddddeeeeooooiiiinnnn ----zzzz 1111////4444

-
- Live video captures sometimes stop updating when the
- video library returns errors. To get it to start up
- again, hit the stop button followed by the play button.
-
-
- _S_t_r_e_a_m _p_r_e_e_m_p_t _m_e_s_s_a_g_e
-
- The video preview button is included in the video
- capture controls. It uses "_v_i_d_e_o_i_n" to run the
- previewer. Occasionally "_v_i_d_e_o_i_n" returns an error
- message to the console: "_v_i_d_e_o_i_n: _S_t_r_e_a_m _w_a_s _p_r_e_e_m_p_t_e_d
- _b_y _a_n_o_t_h_e_r _P_r_o_g_r_a_m". This error results in the
- previewer disappearing prematurely.
-
-
- _V_i_d_e_o _d_e_v_i_c_e _t_r_a_n_s_f_e_r _e_r_r_o_r_s
-
- If you have more than 2 live video captures running on
- a page, you may occasionally see the error message:
- "_v_i_d_e_o _d_e_v_i_c_e: _a_n _e_r_r_o_r _o_c_c_u_r_r_e_d _d_u_r_i_n_g _v_i_d_e_o
- _t_r_a_n_s_f_e_r." or the Stream preempt message. These errors
- occur when the video library becomes overloaded with
- requests. You may want to stop one of the video
- captures to avoid these errors and contention in the
- library.
-
-
- _W_h_i_t_e_b_o_a_r_d _r_e_d_r_a_w_s _s_l_o_w_l_y _o_n _O_n_y_x_2
-
- When an Onyx2 whiteboard receives live video captures
- during a conference, it redraws itself more slowly than
- expected.
-
-
- _S_c_r_e_e_n _c_a_p_t_u_r_e _c_o_n_t_r_o_l_s _h_a_v_e _w_r_o_n_g _c_o_l_o_r_s
-
- When using the screen capture plugin to capture an area
- of the screen, you may occasionally see the screen
- capture controls appear in the wrong color. The colors
- will correct themselves the next time you move the
- mouse into the screen capture area.

-
- When in a conference with the "automatically share
- clipboard" option set, cut and paste in non-shared
- applications can display unexpected results. To avoid
- this problem, do not select this option.

-
- When viewing shared applications from another system,
- it is difficult to modify the stacking order of local
- windows using the window manager "Shuffle Up/Down" menu
- items, or the Alt ESC key binding. This problem can be
- fixed by setting the 4Dwm resource
- _4_D_w_m*_p_o_s_i_t_i_o_n_O_n_S_c_r_e_e_n to _f_a_l_s_e in your $HOME/.Xdefaults
- file. A similar fix will work for the Mwm and CDE dtwm
- window managers.

-
- When sharing applications, keyboard input focus policy
- can appear inconsistent if the conference participants
- are not using a policy of "click to focus". This is
- caused by an implicit assumption in the T.128 protocol
- that participants are using click to focus. While the
- effects of this are not harmful, it can be confusing to
- conference participants. To avoid this, use the click
- to focus window manager policy in the Desktop >
- Customize > Windows menu in the toolchest.

-
- SGImeeting V1.0 or later has an extension to the T.128
- protocol that supports 24-bit color. SGImeeting V1.3
- or later has an implementation of the Microsoft
- NetMeeting 24-bit color extension. When sharing
- applications with a platform that supports neither of
- these extensions images will be limited to 8-bit color,
- or 256 colors. Applications with greater visual depth
- are color reduced to meet the T.128 protocol
- restriction. This is true when hosting applications on
- all known T.128 based platforms, including Microsoft
- NetMeeting V2.1.

-
- Because of restrictions in the T.120 protocol, only one
- copy of SGImeeting may run on a system at a time. This
- restriction means that a user cannot carry on more than
- one conference at a time from any one desktop, and also
- means that only one user at a time may use SGImeeting
- on an Octane DUO system.

-
- Microsoft NetMeeting V2.1 and earlier are limited to
- the Microsoft Proprietary Whiteboard Protocol, and
- cannot use the T.126 whiteboard protocol. When
- collaborating with NetMeeting V2.1, T.126 whiteboard
- traffic will not be visible to the NetMeeting user.
-
- Microsoft NetMeeting V3 uses the T.126 protocol by
- default. When in conference with NetMeeting V3, it may
- be necessary to use the T.126 mode switch in the
- options menu to avoid incompatibilities with
- NetMeeting. It is recommended that NetMeeting V3 be
- configured in NetMeeting V2.1 compatibility mode in
- mixed-mode conferences, and that the Microsoft
- proprietary protocol be used for such conferences.
-
-
- _F_u_l_l-_s_c_r_e_e_n _o_v_e_r_l_a_y_s
-
- Some applications such as Alias|Wavefront Maya make use
- of full-screen overlays to draw their popup menus.
- When sharing such applications, the overlay regions
- that appear outside the application's windows are not
- visible to conference participants who are viewing the
- application. This is an intended limitation for
- security purposes.

-
- Some devices (such as the Polycom ViewStation MP)
- support T.120 only in conjunction with H.323 video.
- Such devices will not connect directly to SGImeeting
- V1. You can, however, connect indirectly through an
- H.323/T.120 client such as NetMeeting.

-
- Because of the restrictions imposed by the T.126
- whiteboard protocol, some features available with the
- NetMeeting proprietary whiteboard protocol are either
- not available, or behave differently when using the
- T.126 protocol. These include:
-
-
-
- _T_e_x_t _e_d_i_t_i_n_g
-
- Because the T.126 protocol does not support
- text primitives, textual annotations are
- rendered using bitmaps. Therefore, resulting
- text cannot be edited after being completed.
-
-
- _Z_o_o_m
-
- When using the proprietary whiteboard
- protocol, the zoom feature is always
- synchronized with other conference
- participants. This is not the case when
- using the T.126 protocol.
-
-
- _R_e_m_o_t_e _P_o_i_n_t_e_r_s
-
- The semantics of remote pointers can vary on
- remote systems when using the T.126 protocol.
- This is due to variations in T.126
- implementations.
-
-
- _P_a_g_e _O_r_d_e_r_i_n_g
-
- Page ordering in the T.126 whiteboard is not
- synchronized between systems. Modifications
- to the page ordering after the conference has
- begun is a local operation, and does not
- propagate to other participants.
-
-
- _L_o_c_k_i_n_g
-
- The T.126 whiteboard does not support
- whiteboard locking.
-

-
- If you insert live screen and video images into more
- than one page of the whiteboard, you should be aware
- that only images in the page you are currently viewing
- will update. If a member of the conference is viewing a
- different page than the sender of the live images, they
- will not see updating images.
-
- When the receiver of the live images changes to the
- same page as the transmitting member, then the images
- will begin updating again.
-
-
- _S_c_r_e_e_n _a_n_d _v_i_d_e_o _p_e_r_f_o_r_m_a_n_c_e
-
- When sending large screen or video images to the
- whiteboard, the performance of the user interface may
- become poor. The workaround is to either increase the
- update delay time for the image, or decrease the size
- of the image.
-
-
- _P_a_s_s_w_o_r_d-_p_r_o_t_e_c_t_e_d _c_o_n_f_e_r_e_n_c_e_s
-
- Although you cannot create password-protected (named)
- conferences with SGImeeting, you can join them. To
- join such a conference ask the conference coordinator
- for the conference name (NetMeeting uses "Personal
- Conference" by default) and password. When placing the
- call check the "Join a named meeting" button and enter
- the conference name. You will then be prompted for the
- conference password.
